We saw a few posts about a “Rescue Only” kitten in a rural NM shelter.

The post repeatedly showed up on the feed. After watching for a few days, we contacted the kennel director to inquire as to why she hadn’t been pulled. We were told that this tiny little creature was very pregnant.

No one had stepped up to help this girl.

We made a few calls and rescued Maya out of the shelter.

Surprise surprise ! Within hours, Maya went into labor and had her first three kittens in the safety and comfort of our vets office.

A vet tech took Maya and her 3 babies home for the night where Maya had 2 more babies.

Unfortunately, Maya is just a kitten herself at around 10 or 11 months old . Kittens having kittens…

Because of tiny Maya’s age and nutritional deficits, Maya doesn’t have milk to feed her kittens.

Our vet tech has volunteered to take on the responsibility of bottle feeding 5 newborn kittens every 2-3 hours. Thank You Lexi.

Maya is a sweet and very lucky little momma kitten. She’s also polydactyl and so are a few of her kitties.
